What shoes would be appropriate?

I'm going to an evening reception (for a wedding). I have choosen an Asian Brocade tail dress that is knee length,red w/gold imprints. I was thinking a maryjane style shoe, but shouldn't I wear some type of heel??? And what color??? Help me please!!!! I'm a mom now and have totally lost my fashion sense!!!!!!!!
